“There is always a fascination with the interrelationship between food, art, and people. Especially with food from childhood. Taiwanese breakfast has been deeply missed while I am in the states. I reminisced over the ordinary days buying dan bing (egg pancake), fan tuan (sticky rice ball), and soy milk near home before starting our day. The memories relative to food turns out to be not so ordinary.
Due to the pandemic, I had the opportunity to travel back to Taiwan. I had a hard time finding anything published about our beautiful complex breakfast culture, so I decided to plan a breakfast documentary trip around the country with my dad. We learned and experienced many varieties of ‘breakfast’ from the past, and created new memories for the future.” - Priscilla Young
